Japanese company Funai Electric Company, the last remaining company to manufacture video cassette recorders, has announced that they will stop production by the end of the month. For those of us in America, VCRs made by Funai were sold under the Sanyo brand.
The only thing that surprised me about this announcement was that there was still a company out there manufacturing VCRs. I can’t recall the last time I saw a VCR sitting on a store shelf.
So if you still have a video cassette that you need to rewind before returning it to Blockbuster, this is your last chance to buy a VCR.
